President Prabowo Subianto has dropped a strong hint that Destry Damayanti could be his choice to lead Bank Indonesia, following Perry Warjiyo’s resignation.
Speaking on Thursday, July 30, 2026, Prabowo noted:
“Mrs. Destry is now the Acting Governor. How do you think [her performance] will be? Okay? Well, that’s up to the House of Representatives.”
His remarks suggest the formal nomination process — a fit and proper test at the DPR — is still ahead.
Clarification from the State Secretariat
Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi quickly clarified that no definitive candidate has yet been submitted. For now, Destry continues as Acting Governor under the Bank Indonesia Law.
Prasetyo explained that the mechanism requires the President to propose a candidate to the DPR before the selection process begins. “The decision still rests entirely with the President,” he said, adding that one key criterion will weigh heavily: nationalism.
“Special criteria? The mandatory one is the red and white flag,” Prasetyo remarked.
He also noted it remains uncertain whether the government will put forward a single candidate or multiple names.
“Not yet, not yet,” he said.
The President’s hint places Destry Damayanti firmly in the spotlight, but the formal process is still pending. Until then, she continues steering the central bank through a period of transition.
