Governor of Bank Indonesia, Perry Warjiyo, suddenly stepped down from his position after submitting a resignation letter to President Prabowo Subianto.
The announcement was made by State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi on Monday, July 27, 2026. Hadi said the President also expressed appreciation for Perry’s service in leading the central bank since 2018.
“Yesterday we officially received a resignation letter from the Governor of Bank Indonesia addressed to the President,” said Hadi Prasetyo at a press conference at the Bank Indonesia office.
“Of course, it was accompanied by words of thanks and the highest appreciation for his dedication during roughly seven years of leading Bank Indonesia,” Hadi added.
Destry Damayanti Named Successor
Hadi Prasetyo explained that the government will immediately follow up on the administrative process of the resignation in accordance with legal provisions.
The President will issue a Presidential Decree formally relieving Perry of his duties as Governor of Bank Indonesia.
The position will then automatically be carried out by the Senior Deputy Governor as Acting Governor until the definitive appointment process is completed.
“In this case, the Senior Deputy Governor refers to Mrs. Destry Damayanti,” Hadi Prasetyo stated.
He also urged the public to remain calm and emphasized that coordination between the government and BI will continue as usual.
Perry Warjiyo was first inaugurated as Governor of Bank Indonesia on May 24, 2018, replacing Agus Martowardojo. He was later reappointed for a second term (2023–2028) on May 24, 2023.
Before serving as governor, Perry was Deputy Governor from 2013 to 2018 and had built his career at the central bank since 1984.
