According to reporting from Tempo, Agung Wicaksono, the Deputy of Funding and Investment of the IKN Authority has invited potential investors from the US to contribute to the development of Indonesia’s new state capital project IKN (Nusantara Capital City).
In a written statement released on Tuesday (28/11/23) Agung said that “Indonesia and the US are both huge democratic countries implementing the presidential system,” and a strategic partnership between both countries is important to realize sustainable investment in Indonesia.
Tempo report that business and investment stakeholders from Indonesia and the US met during a New York-based event. “This investment roadshow to the east coast of the US in New York and Washington DC is a follow-up to President [Joko Widodo’s] instruction while he was on the west coast to attend APEC in San Francisco,” Agung said.
Agung also hoped that this series of meetings could attract US investors to cooperate and invest in IKN to support its development.
“We believe that US investors are quite enthusiastic to cooperate with domestic investors to realize, for example, the [IKN] projects that have gone through the groundbreaking process which are a collaboration between domestic and foreign investors,” Agung added.
Indonesian Consul in New York, Winanto Adi, stated that this cooperation would create a critical impact on the world. “The US has the rich experience and ability to develop a state capital, such as Washington DC,” he said.
Wiananto believes that both countries could exchange knowledge to develop their respective state capitals “including how to face challenges and handle opportunities, including to collaborate in various sectors, such as infrastructure, education, health, and tourism relevant to the new state capital project,” say Tempo.
