Jakarta Named Initial Hub for Indonesia International Financial Center, Bali’s Role Under Review

Indonesian International Financial Center

Indonesian central government has confirmed that the Indonesian International Financial Center will be first established in Jakarta to allow operations to begin immediately.

Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, stated that the decision to designate Jakarta as the initial location for the center had already been made earlier. Meanwhile, Bali option remain under government evaluation.

“Yes, the location has been determined — the initial stage will be in Jakarta,” Airlangga said at the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs office on Thursday (20/8/2026).

Airlangga explained that the government is still assessing potential sites in Bali, including land managed by the state investment agency, Daya Anagata Nusantara (Danantara).

“Bali is still under evaluation, at one of Danantara’s sites,” he noted.

Operations Without Delay

Previously, the decision to start Indonesia International Financial Center operations in Jakarta was also emphasized by Minister of Investment and Downstream Industry/Head of Indonesia Investment Coordinating Board, Rosan Roeslani on Friday, 14 August 2026.

Rosan explained that launching in Jakarta enables the government to start operational activities without waiting for new facilities to be completed.

This step ensures the center can immediately carry out the functions envisioned by the administration.

“For the initial stage, the location is Jakarta. Why? Because the President wants this to start working right away — there’s momentum,” Rosan said at the Directorate General of Taxes headquarters in South Jakarta, as quoted on Sunday (16/8/2026).

However, Rosan stressed that Bali remains a prime candidate. Its appeal lies not only in investment potential but also in its globally recognized tourism strength.

This concept positions Bali not merely as an alternative site for international financial activities, but as a potential hub within a broader investment ecosystem — combining financial services, business activities, tourism, and other supporting sectors.
