Speaking at the National Conference of the Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI) on Tuesday (11/2/25,) Rizki Handayani Mustafa, deputy for industry and investment at Indonesia’s Ministry of Tourism, announced that the government is currently carrying out a restructuring or reform to develop the tourism sector and realize sustainable tourism, according to reporting from Antara News.
Mustafa said that the government is seeking to improve tourism regulations and management and address tourism-related issues so that the sector can make a greater contribution to the country’s economic growth.
The Ministry of Tourism is also coordinating with other ministries and institutions to develop tourism and realize sustainable tourism, say Antara News, adding that Mustafa affirmed that throughout 2025, the ministry will implement flagship programs, including the Clean Tourism Movement (GWB), digitalization and utilization of artificial intelligence, development of marine tourism and medical tourism, and improvement of tourism villages.
The government is also seeking to boost tourism promotion to attract more tourists and increase state revenue from the tourism sector. PHRI chairperson Hariyadi B. Sukamdani hopes that the government will pay greater attention to the tourism sector as one of the drivers of economic growth and highlighted the important role of the government in advancing Indonesia’s tourism sector so that it can compete with neighboring countries such as Thailand, Vietnam, and Malaysia.
Antara News reports that earlier, Tourism Minister Widiyanti Putri Wardhana expressed optimism regarding the tourism sector’s potential to positively influence the national economy and generate more employment opportunities in the future.
“I am optimistic that the development of the tourism sector can continue and further encourage the contribution of the tourism sector to the growth of the national GDP (gross domestic product),” she said.
