Indonesia France Infrastructure Partnership Bolsters TOD Areas

Indonesia France Infrastructure Partnership meeting featuring Coordinating Minister Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono and French Ambassador Fabien Penone, highlighting collaborative discussions on Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) areas, sustainable infrastructure, and transportation advancements.

The Indonesia France Infrastructure Partnership aims to advance infrastructure development, focusing on transportation and Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) areas. By integrating residential, commercial, and recreational spaces with public transit systems, this collaboration seeks to transform urban living standards in Indonesia.

This effort aligns with the vision of Indonesia’s National Medium-Term Development Plan (2025–2029), showcasing both nations’ commitment to creating innovative solutions for modern city challenges, paving the way for a more sustainable and connected future.

Advancing Strategic Infrastructure Projects

During a recent meeting, Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), and French Ambassador Fabien Penone discussed several strategic issues. These include environmentally friendly transportation, mass transit systems, aircraft parts production, and the development of Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) areas.

“We aim to ensure that by building the right infrastructure—impactful infrastructure—we enhance connectivity, ensuring everything is well-connected,” AHY stated as reported by detik.com during the discussion.

One of the key focuses is enhancing public transportation systems to reduce congestion and improve urban mobility. By addressing these strategic priorities, the partnership aims to create a robust foundation for sustainable urban growth, benefiting both countries in the long term.

Boosting Skills for Sustainable Management

Another central aspect of this collaboration is improving human resource capacity in the transportation sector. To achieve this, Indonesia and France are working on specialized training and education programs. These include internships for lecturers and cadets, as well as double degree collaborations with French universities.

These initiatives are designed to equip professionals with expertise in key areas like shipping, port security, cybersecurity, and risk management. By fostering a highly skilled workforce, the partnership aims to support modern and sustainable transportation management systems.

“I believe if the two countries can commit strategically—not only government-to-government but also business-to-business and people-to-people connections—we can move toward a better future,” AHY remarked. This shared vision underscores the importance of investing in human resources to build a robust and sustainable transportation infrastructure.

Transforming Urban Areas with TOD

The development of Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) areas is a cornerstone of this partnership. Indonesia has identified key regions, including Jabodetabek, Sarbagita, and Mebidangro, as priorities for TOD implementation. These urban centers are targeted for transformation into efficient, integrated, and sustainable environments.

Through technology transfer and expertise from France, the initiative aims to create well-connected urban spaces that meet the needs of growing populations. Furthermore, these projects focus on reducing urban sprawl, promoting public transit usage, and enhancing accessibility.

“With the right approach, TOD can redefine how urban communities live, work, and interact,” AHY noted. This vision aligns with Indonesia’s commitment to fostering urban areas that are both livable and environmentally friendly, supported by cutting-edge innovations from France.

Shaping a Sustainable and Connected Future

The Indonesia-France infrastructure partnership is a milestone in promoting sustainable urban development and modern transportation systems. With a focus on innovation, human resource development, and urban transformation, the collaboration is set to redefine infrastructure standards in Indonesia.

As both nations work together, the future looks promising for creating efficient, livable, and connected cities. This partnership stands as a testament to the power of international collaboration in addressing global challenges and achieving shared goals.
