Indonesia’s Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa predicted that the recent string of disasters in Indonesia would not significantly affect the national economy.
“There should be some minor disruption to economic growth, but it won’t go so far as to significantly slow down the economy,” Minister Purbaya said to the press at the House of Representatives building in Jakarta on Monday (Sept. 7, 2026).
The disasters included an earthquake in East Nusa Tenggara, forest fires in Kalimantan, and most recently, the eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau from Friday, September 4 to Sunday, September 6.
Purbaya added that the ongoing natural disasters would not create major pressure on spending needs in the 2026 state budget, nor cause a sharp drop in state revenue.
According to him, the realization of the 2026 State Budget remains under control and is still capable of driving accelerated economic growth in the third and fourth quarters of 2026.
“So from the budget side there’s no problem. In fact, we’re pushing growth in Q3 and Q4,” Purbaya explained.
On disaster management, Purbaya noted that funding is handled by the National Disaster Management Agency. However, he confirmed his readiness to provide additional funds if needed.
