In a statement released on Tuesday (20/8/24), Indonesia’s Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno, said that the total investment in Labuan Bajo in the first quarter of 2024 reached nearly IDR 570 billion (approximately USD 36.9 million), and it is expected to increase with the development of supporting access in the area, according to reporting from Antara News.
As a super-priority tourism destination since 2020, Labuan Bajo, has recorded significant investment inflows, especially for infrastructure and tourism development.
“This puts Labuan Bajo in fourth position with the highest investment realization value out of 10 priority tourism destinations,” Uno said.
Antara News reports that in 2023, the total investment realization in Labuan Bajo stood at IDR 5.2 trillion. Based on the figure, the tourism sector was one of the largest contributors among the 15 investment sectors in East Nusa Tenggara.
In the near future, Uno said, Air Asia will operate additional international flights on the Kuala Lumpur to Labuan Bajo route, with other international flight routes, for instance, from Australia and Singapore expected to follow.
“This achievement proves that NTT is increasingly pursuing economic growth that contributes to state and regional revenues as well as the creation of wider employment opportunities,” Uno said.
