Tempo are reporting on statements made by President Jokowi prior to leaving for Belgium, where he is scheduled to attend the European Union – ASEAN Summit in commemoration of the 45th anniversary of the relationship between the two organizations.
Jokowi said trade relations between the EU and ASEAN in 2021 reached USD 268.9-billion, which is “the third largest after China and the United States.”
In addition, Jokowi said that Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) from the European Union to ASEAN would reach USD 26 billion, “also the second largest Foreign Direct Investment after China,” he said.
This condition, he said, was the reason Indonesia wanted good relations between the EU and ASEAN to continue to be strengthened. “We, Indonesia, want our trade to increase between Indonesia and the EU and investment from the European Union to Indonesia will also continue to increase,” he said.
