Development of Indonesia’s tourism destinations is no longer focused solely on increasing visitor numbers. The new priority is to generate economic activity and create jobs across the regions.
The Ministry of Tourism and the Daya Anagata Nusantara Investment Management Agency (Danantara) are strengthening their collaboration to align destination development with investment opportunities.
Ministry of Tourism Spokesperson, Imam Priyono explained that their partnership covers destination and infrastructure development, tourism investment and industry growth, human resource capacity building, special‑interest tourism products, data and information exchange, and enhanced marketing efforts.
“However, the specific operational scheme is still under discussion,” Imam said on Wednesday, 12 August 2026.
Broader Synergy among Stakeholders
Meanwhile, Danantara is expected to play a key role in driving destination and infrastructure development, as well as strengthening Indonesia’s investment ecosystem.
“Both parties plan to create programs and concrete actions that are productive, accountable, and sustainable,” Imam added.
These initiatives will serve as an umbrella for broader synergy involving the Ministry of Tourism, Danantara, state‑owned enterprises, and other stakeholders.
Imam emphasized that destinations or projects prioritized for investment will be mapped and discussed systematically, with careful consideration of readiness, feasibility, and potential economic impact.
“For destinations or projects prioritized for investment, the mapping and discussion process will be conducted systematically, considering readiness, feasibility, and potential economic impact,” Imam said.
Beyond destination development, the Ministry is also encouraging collaboration among tourism businesses to strengthen the tourism ecosystem.
Imam noted that meetings have already taken place between Garuda Indonesia and various tourism business associations, as well as hotel chains including Artotel Group, Wyndham Hotels, Archipelago Hotels, Ascott Indonesia, El Royale Hotels, and Jambuluwuk Hotels.
Minister of Tourism Widiyanti Putri highlighted the sector’s strong momentum, pointing to foreign exchange earnings from tourism in 2025 that reached US$18.27 billion (around IDR 305.4 trillion) and supported 25.91 million jobs.
This positive trend continued into the first half of 2026, with foreign tourist arrivals growing 5.71 percent year‑on‑year.
The scope of cooperation between the Ministry of Tourism and Danantara includes data exchange, human resource development, destination and infrastructure projects, global marketing, and the organization of major events and special‑interest tourism.
