World Expo 2025 Osaka officially opened on April 13, drawing international attention to Japan as over 160 nations gathered to present their vision for the future. Among them, Indonesia stood out with a strong focus on sustainability and wellness. The country aims to showcase its natural beauty, cultural heritage, and growing green economy through its uniquely designed pavilion.

A Global Stage at World Expo 2025 Osaka

The opening ceremony of World Expo 2025 Osaka brought together more than 1,300 guests, including Japanese Emperor Naruhito and Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba. The event launched under the theme “Designing Future Society for Our Lives,” emphasizing unity and forward-thinking innovation. “The world, having overcome the coronavirus pandemic, is now threatened by a series of divisions,” said Ishiba. “It is very meaningful that people from around the world gather here to discuss the theme of life and experience cutting-edge technology, diverse ideas, and culture.”

This year’s expo, held on Yumeshima Island in Osaka, will run for six months until October 2025. With millions of visitors expected, the global event offers countries a chance to exchange knowledge and ideas about sustainable development, technology, and culture.

Indonesia’s Vision: Thriving in Harmony

At the Indonesian Pavilion, visitors experience the theme “Thriving in Harmony: Nature, Culture, Future.” The pavilion design, inspired by a traditional sailing ship, celebrates Indonesia’s rich maritime legacy. It also reflects the nation’s commitment to building a balanced lifestyle rooted in biodiversity and diverse cultural values.

Tourism Minister Widiyanti Putri Wardhana emphasized the importance of this global platform. “This global stage allows us to showcase the incredible beauty and potential of Indonesia’s tourism—especially in the rapidly growing wellness sector,” she said during a press preview in Osaka. The design also incorporates elements that highlight the national philosophy of “Tri Hita Karana,” which promotes harmony between people, nature, and spiritual well-being.

Wellness and Sustainability in the Spotlight

Indonesia’s participation also highlights its growing focus on wellness tourism. The pavilion introduces visitors to traditional wellness practices, herbal remedies, and holistic approaches that blend ancient knowledge with modern science. These elements not only promote sustainable living but also support the country’s eco-tourism efforts.

“Harmony is what we bring so visitors can experience something unique in the Indonesian Pavilion,” said Minister Widiyanti, as cited by haloindonesia.co.id. “We present it through a journey filled with art, culture, stunning nature, and wellness traditions passed down through generations.”She added.

This showcase positions Indonesia as a leader in sustainable tourism, providing new opportunities for economic growth that align with environmental values.

Indonesia’s Green Message at World Expo 2025 Osaka

The pavilion uses natural materials and energy-efficient features to reflect Indonesia’s environmental values. Interactive installations highlight renewable energy, conservation efforts, and local innovations that support a green future. Visitors can explore educational exhibits designed to spark conversations about eco-conscious living.

A standout feature includes a large-scale wooden structure that aligns with Japan’s own architectural centerpiece, the “Grand Ring,” recognized by Guinness World Records as the largest wooden structure in the world. Both exhibits emphasize sustainable construction as a global priority.

Strengthening Global Partnerships

Indonesia’s presence at World Expo 2025 Osaka is a joint effort led by the Ministry of National Development Planning and supported by other key government agencies. The collaboration also includes private sector players from resorts, spas, and tourism consultancies who will participate in business forums and promotional events in May.

These programs aim to open doors for international collaboration, strengthen Indonesia’s business ecosystem, and promote investment in green industries.

A Lasting Impact Beyond the Expo

Through its green message and cultural showcase, Indonesia positions itself as a champion of sustainability on the world stage. The World Expo 2025 Osaka provides a rare opportunity to connect innovation, tradition, and international cooperation.

“Together, let’s fully develop Indonesia’s wellness tourism potential, where tradition meets modernity, and where every step moves us toward a thriving green economy,” said Minister Widiyanti.

As the event continues, Indonesia invites the world to experience its vision of harmony, balance, and a sustainable future.
