Following a meeting with Muhaimin Iskandar, Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment in Jakarta on Friday (1/11/24,) Indonesia’s Minister of Creative Economy, Teuku Riefky Harsya, said that the creative economy has huge potential to support Indonesia’s economic independence, according to reporting from Antara News.
“Indonesia’s creative economy has 17 sub-sectors that have strengths and experience extraordinary development from time to time,” Harsya said in his official statement on Saturday (2/11/24,) adding that the creative economy can serve as an important pillar in the efforts to achieve national development goals.
The ministry’s data found that the export value of Indonesia’s creative economy products in 2023 reached USD 23.96 billion, or 88.91 percent of the determined target, says Antara News.
Considering these achievements and the huge potential, President Prabowo Subianto specifically established the Creative Economy Ministry in his cabinet, a step that is expected to strengthen the creative economy’s position as a crucial foundation in supporting the government’s goals, especially in terms of economic independence, job creation, and the development of innovation-based economic sectors.
In addition, based on Presidential Regulation (Perpres) Number 139 of 2024 concerning the Arrangement of Duties and Functions of State Ministries in the Red and White Cabinet for the 2024 to 2029 Period, six ministries come under the auspices of the Coordinating Ministry for Community Empowerment, one of which is the Ministry of Creative Economy/Creative Economy Agency, Antara News reports.
“With the support of and collaboration with the Coordinating Ministry for Community Empowerment, the creative economy sector is expected to continue to significantly provide added value to the Indonesian economy,” Harsya said.
