The CIIE 2025 trade is playing a central role in shaping deeper economic ties between China and Indonesia. China continues to expand its global economic openness, while Indonesia is seizing this momentum to strengthen its export presence. Both countries see the China International Import Expo (CIIE) as a strategic platform for growth. Indonesia’s aligned priorities with China create a promising environment for long-term cooperation and mutual benefit.
China’s Economic Openness Drives Regional Growth
China aims to reinforce its position as a leader in high-standard economic openness. Premier Li Qiang highlighted this commitment during the opening of CIIE 2025 in Shanghai. He stated, “CIIE demonstrates China’s determination to further open itself and play an active role in maintaining global economic stability.” His remarks reflected China’s broader agenda to support global markets.
China’s World Open Index rose by 0.5 percent in 2024, which marked a nearly 30 percent increase since 1990. Meanwhile, the global openness index recorded a slight decline. These figures show China’s strong trajectory toward greater global integration. International businesses also remain optimistic. L’Oréal Group CEO Nicolas Hieronimus noted, “China is fertile ground for innovation and growth. Investing in China means investing in the global future.” This confidence strengthens China’s appeal as a long-term economic partner.
CIIE 2025 Trade Platform Strengthens Market Access
CIIE 2025 provides a gateway for global companies seeking stable and expanding markets. Since its launch, the expo has attracted more than 23,000 foreign enterprises and generated potential transactions exceeding USD 500 billion. Its continued success reinforces China’s status as the world’s second-largest import market for 16 consecutive years.
This year, China expanded the platform’s inclusivity by offering a special pavilion for Least Developed Countries. A total of 163 companies from these nations joined, representing a 23.5 percent rise from last year. Their participation demonstrates China’s intention to build an open platform for all markets. As global economic challenges persist, China believes cooperation remains essential. Li Qiang emphasized this point, saying, “China will continue to be an anchor of global economic stability through openness, collaboration, and innovation.”

Indonesia Export Expansion Gains Strong Momentum
Indonesia increases its export penetration into China by taking full advantage of CIIE 2025. The Ministry of Trade views the expo as a critical opportunity to introduce national products directly to Chinese consumers. Director General Fajarini Puntodewi stressed the importance of this effort, stating, ‘CIIE serves as one of the key platforms to present the strengths of our products directly to Chinese consumers and business partners.’
Indonesia’s pavilion officially opened on November 5 and featured ten exporters showcasing top products. These include coffee, instant noodles, snacks, bird’s nest, and various specialty items from across the archipelago. Government representatives from ITPC Shanghai and IIPC Beijing supported the initiative to enhance Indonesia’s visibility.
Puntodewi highlighted the strategic value of the event. She explained, ‘Indonesia’s participation in CIIE 2025 is expected to be a key milestone in increasing the penetration of Indonesian export products, especially agricultural and processed food products, into the Chinese market.’ Indonesia aims to position itself as a strong and reliable partner for China within ASEAN.

Strengthening China–Indonesia Cooperation Through Key Sectors
Trade between China and Indonesia continues to grow, driven by commodities and value-added goods. From January to September 2025, bilateral trade reached USD 110.65 billion, marking a 13 percent increase from the previous year. Indonesia’s leading exports include steel, mineral fuels, nickel, palm-based products, and pulp.
Indonesia also works to expand specific agricultural exports. The country joined the Second International Durian Industry Innovation and Development Summit Forum as part of its strategy to increase durian shipments to China. Rising consumer demand makes this sector particularly promising. Beyond agriculture, continued industrial trade reinforces both nations’ positions within the regional supply chain.
Expanding Opportunities in China’s Open Market
China’s growing openness and Indonesia’s active export expansion form a strong foundation for deeper economic ties. CIIE 2025 demonstrates how both nations benefit from shared goals and collaborative growth. As China widens market access and Indonesia strengthens its trade strategy, both countries move toward a more integrated and prosperous economic partnership.
