The Batam Golden Visa has marked a new milestone in the city’s investment landscape. During the BP Batam Award 2025, two foreign investors officially received the Golden Visa from the Batam Class I Special Immigration Office in collaboration with BP Batam. The award ceremony not only recognized influential figures and companies contributing to Batam’s growth but also underscored the city’s status as a growing global investment hub.
Head of the Batam Class I Special Immigration Office, Hajar Aswad, described the Golden Visa as an exclusive facility for high-quality investors who meet the requirements of Indonesia’s Ministry of Immigration and Civil Affairs and the Ministry of Finance. “We grant Golden Visas to investors who meet all official requirements—both administrative and investment-related. The goal is to simplify their business activities so they don’t have to renew their residence permits every year,” said Hajar Aswad.
He added that both recipients had undergone strict verification, including checks with the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM). Once all criteria were met, they officially received long-term residence permits. This initiative demonstrates Indonesia’s commitment to making Batam more accessible and attractive to international investors.
New Era for Foreign Investment in Batam
The introduction of the Golden Visa program in Batam signifies Indonesia’s broader effort to attract long-term foreign investment. Designed under Ministerial Regulation of Law and Human Rights No. 22 of 2023 and Ministerial Regulation of Finance No. 82 of 2023, the policy offers legal certainty and residency stability to foreign business owners. It also highlights Batam’s strategic role as an economic gateway connecting Indonesia to Singapore and Malaysia.
Hajar Aswad emphasized that the Golden Visa symbolizes trust and partnership between the government and investors. It ensures they can operate in Batam with confidence and long-term security. He noted that the program would further strengthen Batam’s reputation as an investment-friendly destination that welcomes serious business commitments.
Investment Requirements and Long-Term Benefits
The Golden Visa offers flexibility and stability for investors based on the value of their capital. Individuals investing US$2.5 million (approximately Rp38 billion) can obtain a five-year residence permit, while those investing US$5 million (around Rp76 billion) receive a ten-year permit. Corporate investors that establish companies in Indonesia can also qualify under higher investment thresholds.
“Through the Golden Visa, CEOs and directors of qualified foreign companies can obtain residence permits of up to 10 years. This is a tangible step toward ensuring comfort and legal certainty for investors,” added Hajar Aswad.
This initiative is expected to drive more long-term investments into Batam and enhance the island’s role in Indonesia’s global economic development strategy.
BP Batam Recognition Strengthens Investor Confidence
The BP Batam Award 2025 celebrated investors and companies that have played major roles in regional growth. BP Batam’s Deputy for Investment and Business, Fary Djemy Francis, expressed appreciation for investors who continue to trust Batam’s potential. “Fifty-four years ago, Batam wasn’t what it is today. Now, Batam has become Indonesia’s gateway to progress,” he said.
Fary revealed that investment realization in the first half of 2025 reached Rp33.7 trillion, or 56.2 percent of the Rp60 trillion annual target. “We extend our deepest appreciation to all investors who continue to trust Batam, and to the government for its support. This proves that our investment ecosystem is healthy and making real progress,” he added.
BP Batam Deputy Head Li Claudia Chandra also highlighted that the recognition is not just a form of gratitude but a call to continue collaboration. “This is our highest appreciation for the strong synergy that has been built. Hopefully, this award will inspire others to foster a sustainable investment climate,” she said.
Batam’s Rising Global Appeal
Batam continues to attract foreign investors thanks to its proximity to Singapore and Malaysia, improving infrastructure, and pro-business policies. As a Special Economic Zone, the city offers competitive advantages that make it a preferred destination for multinational companies seeking expansion in Southeast Asia. The Golden Visa strengthens this appeal by granting investors greater flexibility to reside and operate in Indonesia long-term.
Golden Visa Fuels Batam Investment Growth
The Batam Golden Visa represents more than administrative convenience. It embodies collaboration between the government and investors to create a sustainable and inclusive investment environment. With two investors already granted this facility, Batam has entered a new era of global recognition. This initiative reinforces the city’s vision of becoming a world-class investment hub that drives Indonesia’s economic growth and prosperity.
