Jokowi Joins Bloomberg New Economy Advisory Board

Indonesia’s Ex President Joko Widodo, widely known as Jokowi, has officially joined the Bloomberg New Economy Advisory Board. The announcement was made on April 9, 2025, in New York, marking a new chapter in Indonesia’s engagement with the global economy. His appointment highlights Indonesia’s growing influence in international forums and signals the importance of developing nations in shaping future economic dialogue.

Bloomberg New Economy Advisory and Its Mission

The Bloomberg New Economy Advisory Board brings together global leaders to provide strategic input during a period of rapid transformation. Its mission is to guide conversations on trade, investment, technology, and the climate crisis. According to the organization, the board was created to find solutions that address shared challenges and support global prosperity.

Gina Raimondo, former U.S. Commerce Secretary and fellow board member, emphasized the urgency of the mission. She said, “As the world faces geopolitical uncertainty, technological advances, and an escalating climate crisis, finding common ground and building global prosperity has never been more important.” This statement reflects the board’s goal of encouraging collaboration between governments and businesses worldwide.

Jokowi’s Role in Global Economic Leadership

Jokowi enters this role with a decade of presidential leadership in Indonesia. Bloomberg New Economy highlighted him as a politician, engineer, and entrepreneur who became the first Indonesian president without a military or elite political background. His unique trajectory gives him a distinct perspective on economic development and governance.

As part of the board, Jokowi is expected to contribute insights that reflect the priorities of developing countries. His leadership experience positions him to advocate for inclusive growth strategies. With the world undergoing shifts in economic power, his presence underscores the need to ensure that emerging economies play a central role in shaping global policies.

Other Influential Figures on the Advisory Board

The Bloomberg New Economy Advisory Board includes 21 distinguished members from business, government, and international organizations. Alongside Jokowi are figures such as Marc Rowan, CEO of Apollo Global Management; Gita Gopinath, First Deputy Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund; Ravi Menon, Singapore’s Climate Action Ambassador; and Noubar Afeyan, co-founder of Moderna.

Mario Draghi, former Italian Prime Minister and former President of the European Central Bank, serves as Co-Chair. The diversity of the board ensures that perspectives from across sectors and regions are represented. Their combined expertise strengthens the board’s capacity to address global shifts and deliver actionable guidance.

Indonesia’s Stronger Voice in Global Forums

Jokowi’s appointment also enhances Indonesia’s standing in international discussions. As a member of the advisory board, he offers a vital perspective from a major emerging economy. His presence helps ensure that the voices of developing nations influence global debates on trade, investment, and sustainability.

Jokowi’s role reflects recognition of his leadership record and Indonesia’s growing relevance. By contributing to this platform, he positions Indonesia to engage more actively in building solutions for global prosperity. This marks an important step in elevating Indonesia’s role in shaping policies that impact both advanced and developing economies.

Upcoming Singapore Meeting of Bloomberg New Economy Advisory

The next Bloomberg New Economy Advisory meeting will take place in Singapore from November 19 to 21, 2025. The gathering will carry the theme “Thriving in an Age of Extremes.” Leaders will discuss how to adapt and prosper amid shifting trade patterns, political uncertainty, climate change, and advancements in artificial intelligence.

Michael Bloomberg, founder of Bloomberg LP, underlined the importance of the upcoming forum. He said, “With so many forces reshaping the global economy, from shifts in trade and politics to climate change and artificial intelligence, the mission of Bloomberg New Economy is more relevant than ever.” His words highlight the significance of the discussions planned for Singapore.

Strengthening Strategic Global Cooperation

Jokowi’s participation in the Bloomberg New Economy Advisory Board signals Indonesia’s commitment to international collaboration. His role reinforces the importance of including developing economies in shaping strategies for sustainable growth. As the world navigates an age of extremes, his insights will help build a more inclusive path toward global prosperity.
