A press release published on the website of The President of The Republic of Indonesia has announced that President Prabowo Subianto reiterated his commitment to accelerating concrete cooperation between Indonesia and Brazil, particularly in the agriculture, clean energy, and defense sectors. He made this statement in a joint press conference with Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on Wednesday (9/7/25,) at the Planalto Palace in Brasilia.
“Brazil provides an outstanding example in the use of biofuels and innovation in the agricultural sector. Brazil’s productivity is extraordinary, and we want to learn from that experience,” said President Prabowo.
Regarding the energy transition, President Prabowo stated that the Brazilian government has welcomed Indonesia’s plan to send more technical teams to study technology and modernization in the agricultural sector and renewable energy development. On that occasion, President Prabowo reiterated Indonesia’s commitment to achieving 100 percent renewable energy within the next ten years.
“The target is, of course, 2040, but my experts say we can achieve it much sooner. Again, we see Brazil’s success in developing biofuels. And I think we’re determined to catch up with the progress Brazil has made,” said President Prabowo.
On the occasion, President Prabowo emphasized that food security and self-sufficiency are crucial for Indonesia. He also stated that Indonesia views Brazil’s program as an inspiring model for supporting food security and meeting children’s nutritional needs.
“We are currently implementing an ambitious program to provide free, nutritious meals for children and pregnant women in Indonesia, and our target is 82.9 million servings per day by December 2025,” he said.
Furthermore, President Prabowo stated that bilateral cooperation will also be expanded through the role of the Indonesian Archipelago Investment Management Agency (Danantara), as well as the implementation of the Indonesia-Brazil Defense Cooperation Agreement.
“I think we want to continue this cooperation through joint production and technology transfer. We also want to increase joint military personnel training and technological collaboration on missile and submarine systems,” said President Prabowo.
