President Appreciates Russia’s Support for Membership in BRICS

A press release published on the website of The President of The Republic of Indonesia has announced that President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto met with President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin in a warm and friendly atmosphere at the Konstantinovsky Palace, St. Petersburg, on Thursday (19/6/25.) This meeting is an important part of President Prabowo’s official visit to Russia, and his participation as a guest of honor at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) 2025.

In his introduction, President Prabowo expressed his appreciation and gratitude for Russia’s full support for Indonesia’s membership in BRICS. The Head of State also explained the reason for his absence from the BRICS Summit in Kazan some time ago.

“I am also very grateful that Russia supports Indonesia to become a full member of BRICS in a very short time. I actually wanted to attend the Kazan Summit in person. But at that time, I had only been inaugurated for one day and I had to inaugurate my cabinet,” said President Prabowo.

The Head of State also highlighted the increasingly close intensity of bilateral relations between Indonesia and Russia in a short time, both at the level of state leaders and high-ranking officials of both countries. President Prabowo also appreciated the development of economic cooperation and other strategic sectors.

“I follow the developments, there is a lot of progress in various fields. The economy is improving, our economic relations. Cooperation in many fields is also very good. And our agreements to participate in the Eurasian Free Trade Area are also going very well. So thank you President Putin. There is a lot of progress in this relationship,” said President Prabowo.

Meanwhile, President Putin welcomed the meeting to have a deeper discussion with President Prabowo. The discussion will cover bilateral cooperation with Indonesia in various fields that are considered to have developed consistently.

“The relations between Russia and Indonesia are developing consistently. The volume of trade is increasing. We have many perspectives in various fields, including agriculture, space exploration, and energy. Cooperation in the military and technical fields. We have many opportunities for cooperation and we still have many opportunities and capacities to develop,” President Putin said.

President Putin also emphasized Indonesia’s strategic role as a member of BRICS and expressed his hope for Indonesia’s contribution to BRICS. “Indonesia is a full member of BRICS. And I hope that Indonesia will make a big contribution to the activities of this organization,” said President Putin.
