Indonesia, France Sign Strategic Agreements

The state visit of the President of the Republic of France, Emmanuel Macron to Indonesia has made history in bilateral relations between the two countries, according to a press release published on the website of The President of The Republic of Indonesia. In a ceremony held in the credentials room of the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Wednesday (28/5/25,) 21 agreement documents were signed, shown, and announced in the presence of the President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto and President Emmanuel Macron, marking a strong commitment to deepening strategic partnerships across sectors.

After bilateral meetings with delegations from each country, the two heads of state witnessed the signing and signing of agreement documents covering joint declarations, intergovernmental cooperation (G-to-G), inter-institutional cooperation (P-to-P), private partnerships (B-to-B), and the announcement of cooperation between central banks.

President Prabowo and President Macron first adopted four joint declarations. The declarations reflect the common long-term vision of both countries, as well as their shared contribution to world peace and culture.

  1. Joint Declaration for the Development of the Indonesia-France Strategic Partnership until 2050 (Joint Vision 2050);
  2. ⁠Joint Declaration for the Strategy in the Field of Culture between Indonesia and France;
  3. ⁠Declaration on the Peaceful Settlement of the Palestine Issue and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution;
  4. ⁠Joint Statement between the Presidents of the Republic of Indonesia and the President of the Republic of France.

 

In addition, 11 official deliverables were signed on the occasion, consisting of 10 G-to-G agreements and one P-to-P agreement. The intergovernmental cooperation covers various important sectors, namely:

 

  1. Cooperation Agreement in the field of Diplomatic Capacity Building, signed by the Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs and the French Junior Minister for Francophone Affairs and International Partnerships;
  2. ⁠Cooperation Agreement in the field of Exchange and Mutual Protection of Confidential and Protected Information in the field of defense (MPCIA), signed by the Indonesian Minister of Defense and the French Minister of the Armed Forces;
  3. Strategic Defense Cooperation Agreement, signed by the Indonesian Minister of Defense and the French Minister of the Armed Forces;
  4. Cooperation Agreement in the field of Agriculture, signed by the Indonesian Minister of Agriculture and the French Minister of Economy, Finance and Industrial Sovereignty and Digital;
  5. ⁠Cooperation Agreement in the field of Critical Minerals and Metals, signed by the Indonesian Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources and the French Minister of Economy, Finance and Industrial Sovereignty and Digital;
  6. Cooperation Agreement in the Field of Sustainable Forestry, signed by the Indonesian Minister of Forestry and the French Minister of Economy, Finance and Industrial Sovereignty and Digital;
  7. Cooperation Agreement in the Field of Creative Economy, signed by the Indonesian Minister of Creative Economy and the French Minister of Culture;
  8. Cooperation Agreement in the Field of Culture, signed by the Indonesian Minister of Culture and the French Minister of Culture;
  9. Cooperation Agreement in the Field of Disaster Risk Management, signed by the Head of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) and the French Junior Minister for Francophone Affairs and International Partnerships;

Meanwhile, one P-to-P agreement signed was the Cooperation Agreement in the Field of Horse Sports Ecosystem Development between PORDASI and a number of leading French equestrian institutions such as IFCE, FFE, France Galop, and AFASEC.

In addition to the signing, five strategic collaborations were also demonstrated in the showing session before the heads of state, namely:

 

  1. Cooperation agreement between the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) and Danone, to support efforts to improve national nutrition to build a healthy and advanced generation;
  2. ⁠Cooperation agreement between Danantara, Indonesia Investment Authority (INA), and Eramet, related to critical mineral cooperation to support the electric vehicle ecosystem and nickel downstreaming;
  3. Joint Investment between PT. RGE Indonesia and TotalEnergies, related to the development of solar power generation and battery energy storage projects to support the energy transition;
  4. ⁠Investment between PT Citra Bonang and Lesaffre, related to the expansion of yeast production facilities to strengthen the supply chain in order to support food security priorities;
  5. ⁠Cooperation agreement between PT SMI, PT PLN, and HDF, regarding the development of green hydrogen projects in Eastern Indonesia to encourage clean energy including through financing support in the electricity sector.

 

As part of the announced deliverables, Bank Indonesia and Banque de France also agreed to establish cooperation. The signing and announcement of 21 cooperation documents are a symbol of the close strategic partnership between Indonesia and France.

Andrzej is Co-owner/ Founder and Director of Seven Stones Indonesia. He was born in the UK to Polish parents and has been living in Indonesia for more than 33-years. Terje is from Norway and has been living in Indonesia for over 20-years. He first came to Indonesia as a child and after earning his degree in Business Administration from the University of Agder in Norway, he moved to Indonesia in 1993, where he has worked in leading positions in education and the fitness/ wellness industries all over Indonesia including Jakarta, Banjarmasin, Medan and Bali.

Ridwan is one of Indonesia’s top executives with a long and illustrious career in the financial world. He holds several professional certifications including being a Certified Business Valuer (CBV) issued by the Australian Academy of Finance and Management; Broker-Dealer Representative (WPPE); and The Directorship Certification for Directors and Commissioners, issued by the Indonesian Institute of Commissioners and Directors.

Per Fredrik Ecker

Per is the Managing Director of the Seven Stones Indonesia (SSI) Jakarta office and has more than 25-years’ experience in Indonesia, China, and Western Europe. He previously worked in senior management positions with Q-Free ASA, Siemens AG, and other companies in the telecom sector. Over the last six years, he has been the Chairman of the Indonesia-Norway Business Council (INBC) and recently become elected to be on the board of EuroCham Indonesia.

His most recent experience is within Intelligent Transport Solutions (ITS), Telecom, and other sectors within the Indonesian market. He is today through his position in SSI and by representing Norway Connect, promoting Nordic and European companies that would like to explore business opportunities in the Indonesian market. He’s also playing an active role to help create the Nordic House concept in Jakarta that will provide an excellent platform for Nordic companies entering Indonesia, where they’ll find a community that can offer support with trusted information and affordable services to enter this market.
