According to reporting from Antara News, Indonesia and Switzerland are working to enhance their cooperation in the employment sector at the 4th Tripartite Dialogue on Labor and Employment, held in Bali from November 12 to 15, 2024.
The dialogue, organized by Indonesia’s Ministry of Manpower, brings together government officials, entrepreneurs, workers, and experts from both countries to discuss strategic challenges and opportunities within an evolving employment landscape.
“This forum represents our commitment to tackle global employment challenges together,” said Anwar Sanusi, Secretary General of Indonesia’s Manpower Ministry. He emphasized that the dialogue will allow participants to exchange insights and experiences to better address the rapid shifts in the employment sector, says Antara News.
Sanusi noted that both Indonesia and Switzerland face increasingly complex employment challenges, particularly due to environmental issues, the digital economy, and the rise of artificial intelligence (AI). The dialogue is therefore structured around three key themes: digital platforms and AI, the just transition to a green economy, and demographic changes.
Highlighting the impact of AI, Sanusi explained that while advanced technology can boost productivity, it also poses potential risks for job displacement. He stressed the importance of developing policies that optimize AI’s benefits while protecting workers’ rights and employment security.
Antara News reports that on the topic of the green economy, Sanusi underscored the need to consider the welfare of workers in traditional energy sectors as countries transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources. He advocated for the implementation of training programs to equip workers with the skills needed for roles in the emerging green economy.
Sanusi reaffirmed the Ministry of Manpower’s commitment to fostering synergy and collaboration with all stakeholders to address current and future employment challenges. He expressed optimism that the ongoing dialogue will strengthen ties between Indonesia and Switzerland, paving the way for a more inclusive and adaptive approach to labor issues.
