The Ministry of Manpower is seeking to integrate vocational training services with labour market center services to revitalize vocational training, according to reporting from Antara News.
“This step is part of a major active labour market policy,” Deputy Minister of Manpower, Afriansyah Noor, said at the Indonesia Industrial Summit 2023 in Solo, Central Java, on Tuesday, (29/08/23) adding that the government is trying to develop a needs-based vocational training program and strengthen links and matches in the employment sector.
There are already several integrated vocational training services in the digital employment ecosystem (SIAPKerja), including Skillhub, which is seeking to increase the competency of the Indonesian workforce, Afriansyah pointed out.
There is also the labour certification service Sertihub. “This certification is also a good reference for job seekers and employers in participating in training for re-skilling and up-skilling,” and the KarirHub service that helps connect job seekers with employers. “In this service, competent, skilled, and certified workers can meet easily with companies that need competent prospective employees,” Afriansyah said.
Afriansyah announced that the government is also running the Bizhub portal to provide services to those looking to become independent workers. These services have been connected with business training services, mentoring, business networking, and financing, say Antara News.
Currently, Indonesia’s youngsters constitute at least 25-percent of its workforce, the ministry’s secretary general, Anwar Sanusi, noted in a statement issued on Sunday.
“Therefore, we have to make this young workforce a priority,” he emphasized.
Sanusi highlighted that four programs have been initiated for the young workforce: talent scouting, talent fest, talent corner, and talent class.
According to the secretary general, talent scouting is a program launched to map, assist, and guide young talents and thereby, produce young innovators. The program is being implemented by the work market center.
“We have counselors to find and identify the potential that the young workforce has,” he explained.
Talent fest is a forum where young talents and start-up companies can meet industry representatives and venture capitalists.
Meanwhile, talent corner seeks to improve regional young talents’ competencies and prepare them for future jobs as part of the talent hub at Vocational and Productivity Training Centers’ (BBPVPs’) Central Technical Acting Units (UPTP) in regions, say Antara News.
“This is a place for productive discussions among youngsters, and we provide them in work training centers. Within the ministry, there is a space known as talent corner. It is a comfortable place with a good internet network, and we also frequently invite partners for discussion,” he said.
