Minister: Develop Indonesia’s Marine Tourism Potential

Indonesia’s Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno, has said that Indonesia has abundant untapped potential in the development of marine tourism and sport tourism sectors, according to reporting from Tempo.

“We need to develop (marine tourism) since Indonesia is a maritime country and has great potential for open water swimming,” said Sandiaga, citing example of the upcoming Oceanman Bali 2023 Asian Championship in the Intercontinental Bali Resort slated for July 7-9, 2023. He supported this marine sports event as an effort to revive the economy and open more job opportunities since it involves a lot of Bali’s MSME actors, he said in the ‘Weekly Brief With Sandi Uno’ event in Jakarta, on Monday, July 3, 2023.

Tempo report that the ministry’s Director of Regional Events, Reza Fahlevi, also added that developing sports tourism will accelerate foreign tourists’ visits to Indonesia. Especially international-scale events which target participants across Asia. “We are ready to facilitate these events to encourage more implementation and hasten the mobility of domestic and foreign tourists in Indonesia,” said Reza.
