Indonesia, Australia Hold High-Level Policy Dialogue

Antara News are reporting that the Indonesian Finance Ministry held the Indonesia-Australia High-Level Policy Dialogue 2023 Forum in Jakarta on Monday (May 29) to bolster cooperation between the two countries.

Indonesian Finance Minister Sri Mulyani stated that the forum accommodates governments from the two countries to exchange ideas, views, and experiences in policy making.

“I would push to design and ensure that this policy dialogue is truly effective to address actual challenges and anticipate future challenges,” she noted as quoted from an official statement received by Antara News on Tuesday.

In practice, this forum aims to discuss various critical issues in economic development that are important for both countries, with a theoretical and practical approach, in order to generate inputs and views for policy formulation, particularly from a fiscal policy standpoint, she explained.

According to the minister, amid high global risks and shifting trends that are currently occurring, this forum specifically discussed four aspects: geopolitics, climate change, digitalization, and pandemics, say Antara News.

“This is something that we all need to consider in a high-level policy dialogue because I believe Australia is also facing the same problem,” she stated.

To this end, Mulyani expressed optimism that the dialogue can provide effective and productive answers in overcoming various current and future problems.

Policymakers, academics, and practitioners from both countries were part of the dialogue as well as domestic economists, such as from the University of Indonesia (UI), Gadjah Mada University (UGM), Andalas University (UNAND), Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM), Airlangga University (UNAIR), Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA), Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), Chatib Basri, as co-chair of the Pandemic Fund and ranks from the Ministry of Finance, as well as the Australian Ambassador to Indonesia, Penny Williams along with her staff and academics from the Australia National University.
